Overview: The objective of this assignment is to develop your own understanding and interpretation of each of the four poem selections we will analyze and discuss in class.
Please follow each of these steps for each poem:
1.) Follow the links to read / listen to each of the four poems
2.) Determine what the poem is about based purely on your own opinion (perhaps a stanza-by-stanza annotation would help).
3.) On a separate sheet of paper, complete three evidence sentence frames for each poem similar to the ones we did for the ‘Brandy’ poem ( ex. “In stanza number___the author says_____________, which is likely a reference to_____________. )
4.) Use your sentence frames to: 1.) develop a short (half page) statement about what each poem is about, 2.) explain the reasons you think this poem is a good or bad poem, and; 3.) how you can relate to the poem, or why you think the author might have written this poem (aka ‘author’s purpose’).
